Little Clod of Earth

Three dimensional sculpture of a clump of wild plants made from branded paper packaging. Plastic, wire, glue, foam, pigments in a wood and glass taxonomy case.
36 x 26 x 49 cm

The Little Clod of Earth is a homage to Durer. The plants are all unremarkable: stinging nettles, a dandelion, a daisy, and a few blades of grass. It is a collection of foliage that is often overlooked, and might be described as weeds. The use of branded packaging to construct the scene contrasts with Durer's Divine Creation. This corner of greenery could be the Unofficial Countryside as described by Richard Mabey * which is liable at any moment to be levelled, trimmed, landscaped, incinerated, modernised or just vaguely 'redeveloped'.

This work toured in curated exhibition 'Precious, reclaiming Art and Craft' which was arranged by the Hove Museum and Art Gallery. There was a catalogue to accompany the exhibition
