Legacy: A Reciprocal Tribute

In 2012 the Woodland Trust planted a 459-acre woodland at Normanton le Heath to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. The site, formerly an arable farm and an open cast mine, features a number of land-based art works, including Legacy.

Legacy, conceived and designed by artist Patricia Swannell, will create a 60 year photographic record of the growth of this woodland alongside the growth and changes in a local family. The exhibition on the mezzanine provides a permanent showcase for this photographic record. Each year a new photograph will replace one of the etchings of the wild flowers and grasses found on the site at the time these local fields were transformed. These photographs will be taken by Snibston Discovery Museum’s Transform artist, Christopher Mear.
