Maria's works, rich in texture, surface, and pattern - are abstract representations of the changing landscape. The use of reclaimed and repurposed materials within her work echoes the themes of time and place. Maria's extensive knowledge in textiles and floristry have provided the basis from which her works of thread, stitch, and weave have been informed and developed.
Maria grew up on the Romney Marsh in Kent on a small holding close to the coast and surrounded by countryside. Her parents, both creative, nurtured her interest in art and artistic expression. It was in this rich environment that her interest and passion for textiles was ignited. Maria studied Art and Design at Oxford Brookes University, during which time she was introduced to floristy, which became her primary career for 30 years. Floristry remains a significant influence on her work.
