Alison Gautrey

It is about recording and charting the passage of time… your time on earth, from light to dark.

Almost paper-like,  Alison Gautrey’s spun porcelain vessels in a monochrome palette are luminously translucent. These weightless pieces capture the feeling of movement within the simplicity of form.

This work is the result of a new technique the artist has developed for spinning porcelain. Alison casts slips into various moulds producing a unique, translucent egg-shell bowl each time. It is inspired by exploring contemporary applications of industrial techniques.

The essence of her work is to capture the feeling of movement within the simplicity of form.

Alison has been experimenting with combining Bone China and Porcelain together in the same piece, exploiting the inevitable distortions that occur.
