Furniture maker and sculptor, Duke Christie is considered as one of the most exciting furniture designer-makers of the UK.
Duke spends his days in the hills of northern Scotland where he creates intricate, sculptural pieces from beautiful Scottish hardwoods. Using traditional craftsmanship acquired during twenty-five years of designing and making, Duke employs techniques and ideas that are inspired by the surrounding landscapes and the beautiful and varied Scottish coast.
He constantly experiments with new ways to sculpt and shape these sophisticated and tactile forms that are both stimulating and interactive, something that is impossible to see from a photograph.
Educated and trained in Herefordshire, Duke began his career travelling around the world. During this period, Duke undertook several historic renovation projects such as the reinstatement of the lost woodwork within the Royal Apartments at Edinburgh Castle, building and furnishing a home in Palo Alto California and the Walraversjide Museum Project in West Flanders.
It is not just the form that Duke is interested in; the surfaces of his unique sculptures are just as important. With so much uniformity around us, Duke welcomes the opportunity to express his own individuality through his work.
