A selection of playful works in ceramics, textiles and wood
Denise de Cordova’s and Nicola Tassie’s works seem to naturally and effortlessly connect, converse and complement each other, intriguing and provoking the viewer. There are no conventional vessels or containers, nothing expected. Ceramic is used for limbs, stones, figures, paintings or loops that protrude from the walls.
The pieces evoke effort and physicality in the making. Molding, rolling, shaping, painting, firing. In Denise’s works there is also carving, painting, embroidery.
Although strongly grounded in the tradition of ceramics, years of practice offer the artists a confidence that allows them to escape the conventions of clay and play with the material.
