Charlotte Hodes is exhibiting a series of vases, paper cut-outs, and an installation of crockery at the Museé Ariana in Geneva, Switzerland. The exhibition 'Conversations En Plein Air' is on display from Novermber 3, 2023 - May 5, 2024.
Press Release:
"The Musée Ariana is pleased to present Charlotte Hodes. Conversations en plein air from 3rd November 2023 to 5th May 2024 in our contemporary creations space. Charlotte Hodes, is an internationally exhibited artist, whose work bridges the fine and decorative arts.
Trained as a painter, Charlotte Hodes (UK, 1959) has used readymade ceramic ware as an alternative canvas since the 1990s. She carries over collage and printing processes to the field of ceramics, nourished by her study of the Spode factory's archive of historic transfers in Stoke-on-Trent.
With Conversations en plein air, Charlotte Hodes proposes a playful analogy between French 18th century Fêtes galantes paintings and the outdoor social gatherings experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her hallmark female figures call to each other across media, creating open narrative sequences in richly- patterned environments. A new serie of vases, paper frieze and large-scale tableware installation draw us into the conversation as we sit together on the picnic blanket."
