Press Release:
Simpoiése means "doing together." To act collaboratively.
This exhibition reflects on collaboration between beings, a concept that Donna J. Haraway described as sympoetic arrangements - realities that are conceived in development with, or in the company of.
In contrast, humanity has moved away from these principles, embroiled in the ecological destruction and disastrous power relations of the Anthropocene. Terms like Capitalocene and Plantationocene arise from this logic of human superiority, exceptionalism, ethnocentrism and anthropocentrism, which promote the supremacy of man over nature and over other human beings, without recognizing that human existence depends on interdependent relationships and symbiotic exchanges.
The exhibition highlights this interdependence of living beings and the importance of symbiotic exchanges for the survival of the planet. Inspired by thinkers such as Henry David Thoreau, who lived in harmony with nature, and William Morris, who advocated simplicity and manual labor, Simpoiésis proposes a return to honest and necessary creation.
The artists and designers in the exhibition explore themes of serendipity, randomness, copying and originality in the act of creation/production. The exhibition promotes a new, collaborative look at nature. Through co-creation, Simpoiésis invites visitors to recognize the importance of interdependence and to reflect on how systems and beings develop together, indicating that nothing is completely independent
